The F/A-18C is one of the most successful Light Combat Aircraft to date. With its outstanding electronics and radar systems it can be used equally well as a fighter bomber or an air superiority fighter. It can achieve a top speed in access of Mach 1.8 and without drop tanks has a range of 770 km. The maximum payload for missiles and bombs is 7 tons. The Swiss Air Force chose the F/A-18C Hornet because of its excellent flight performance and handling characteristics. It has a fast response time and excellent dogfighting capabilities. License production of the F/A-18C took place at SF in the town of Emmen between 1996 to 1999
